Sharon Olds Sex Without Love Critical Analysis

Sharon Olds Sex Without Love Critical Analysis
The first stanza reads “How do they do it, the ones who make love without love?”
It’s almost taboo to her, she can’t seem to wrap her head around it. Her wording indicates her disapproval. Yet she is in astonishment. She sounds in utter disbelief repulsed and appalled even. After all, as humans we are emotional beings after such an intense sexual moment it is natural to feel a sort of attachment to your partner. However, this is not the case in recent times. People are now pre-occupied solely with their own desires.
She cherishes sex and acknowledges its power. Sex can be both invigorating and empowering. Beneficial but on the contrary the exact opposite.
It seems to be that the speaker’s tone throughout this poem is one of reflecting on
Sex was formerly associated with “love”. Where respect, consideration, regard and appreciation once lay has now been replaced with vulgarity, demure, perversion.
The speaker stresses the importance of valuing human relationships. As the bond, we once shared is now becoming obsolete. More specifically within sexual intercourse.
Some people use sex as a means of filling a void. They use promises of sex in order to lure people into spending time with them. Except this is short-lived.
Just as in with drug use, chasing the high, ultimately the desired effect is only felt temporarily. Once the act is complete you’re left feeling just as empty as before you engaged in it. Then you’re back to seeking the feeling again. Dependency and addiction a never-ending cycle. Perhaps the sex is being used as a distraction to mask some unresolved issues.
People are becoming self-centered. Values and morals no longer intact. Only concerned with themselves. Originally the act of sex itself was designed to result in conception. Now it is done simply for fulfillment.
They only move in “unison” for the sake of reaching the same goal, the climax. To be sexually gratified through orgasm. Lusting, only physical attraction, no actual spiritual connection.
There’s the ironic disconnect in a moment where you’re actually “connected” physically. An exchanging of souls and energy.
“fingers hooked inside each other’s bodies” This line places great emphasis on the act bringing you together as one. In the speaker’s eyes sex is serious, special and sacred.
As a woman, we literally receive the man. While he is inside us our bodies serve as vessels he is our counterpart. If you look at our genitalia there are many similarities. A male’s penis resembling an overgrown clitoris and vice versa.
Looked at from a religious standpoint it seems to align well with the speaker’s message.
For instance, the Bible states:
“Sex outside of marriage is a sin against your own body.”- Deuteronomy 23:18
Fornication: sex before marriage is forbidden across several religions. If practiced it is thought to result in pain and suffering.
The speaker speaks with admiration and appreciation of sex yet she still manages to be cautious. She understands that sex is powerful. It can work both ways being rewarding and pleasurable or responsible for your own demise and misfortune.
“A second of pleasure can result in a lifetime of pain.”
Sexually transmitted diseases, unplanned pregnancies, bastard children and heartbreak all punishment for going against God’s creation.
“wet as the children at birth whose mothers are going to give them away.”
A mother’s bond with her newborn so precious, sacred and special. Here the speaker is highlighting the significance of a woman’s womb.
Mothers who have decided to give their babies up for adoption once born are reluctant to hold their babies out of fear of reconsidering. Holding their newborn would result in bonding, a relationship. So, in a sense they must be shut off from their emotions, detached to cope with what they have just done. Everything is done quickly to avoid facing the situation. Giving away the prized possession, child in this case. The child raised in your womb. Something to be cherished, guarded with your life is devalued, made cheap. Then giving away your prized possession in reference to sexual intercourse.
Like the persons engaging in the “casual sex” i.e. one night stands. Who after the climax and release they get up and leave. Reluctant to face that person, to face what they have done. The person serves as a reminder of the breaking of that bond. They feel guilt so they run.
One wouldn’t freely give up their baby to a stranger, the fruit of your womb.
Therefore, sex should be had with someone who is deserving of it. Your body, a sacred temple not to be tainted by strangers. Sexual partners should be well thought out and one should have some sort of familiarity with the individual.
Old’s’ asserts the idea to tread carefully with who you decide to let enter your body. There are some beliefs that say a woman’s sexual partners linger on in her body. Their spirits, entities that attach themselves to her, living inside her. So, I can understand why Old’s’ warns against engaging in sex with those who’re undeserving.
“How do they come to the God, come to the still waters, and not love the one who came there with them?” Here the speaker’s tone is of sadness, she empathizes for the love that is never experienced. These people are inexperienced too immature to engage in such an act.
Disapproval The speaker clearly is in total opposition to those who have forgotten the true meaning of sex. Here like in other areas of the poem she condemns them.
The next line goes “light rising slowly as steam off their joined skin?” Another attempt by the speaker to capture the closeness experienced by the two lovers. Steam created by the two bodies, heat formed by the friction Skin touching and rubbing Transfer of not only bodily fluids but each other’s lives, information. Ability to bring life, bear children. Seminal fluid actual life forms, the womb, the uterus the incubator.
Such a passionate moment foolishly overlooked and taken for granted by so many.
“the fit of their shoes, their overall cardiovascular health—just factors, like the partner in the bed…
Although the two are engaged in this encounter they are oblivious to the many details about the other. People in a relationship know their partners likes, dislikes, overall health, clothing and shoe sizes etc. Here she’s once again trying to show the ironic disconnect between the two even though they’re in a situation where they’re actually “connected”.
Just factors as in these things don’t seem to matter to them. They’re mere strangers, but that’s okay for them both.
The speaker then goes on to say:
“and not the truth, which is the single body alone in the universe against its own time.”
The truth is that once the sexual encounter is over the partner serves no purpose. They’re disposable. Only meaningful for one thing, sex. In a sense, they’re being abused and doing the abusing. They make sex of a predatory nature, seeking prey. Wishing to dominate and fulfill that desire.
The orgasm was the only reason for them working together. The irony is that they were together yet separate. Only together for the sake of achieving the same goal- climax. But separately. It is not harmonious or synchronized. Physically attraction and lust is what lured them in, not love. They’re in love with the result, the feeling they’re getting from the other. In reality as shown above they’re clueless about one another.
“Gliding over each other like ice skaters over the ice.” In this line the speaker described sex with these people as being very emotionless. Ice being cold, gliding meaning they’re missing each other, avoiding each other, bypassing one another.
Old’s poem highlights the nature of today’s society as having become narcissistic. People are pre-occupied with temporary satisfaction. But this temporary satisfaction leaves them like substance abusers, fiends constantly searching for that fulfillment. In actuality they’re never fulfilled.  Their judgement is clouded, things they once held dear are now disregarded.

Critical Analysis of Blues Chant Hoodoo Revival

The title of Komunyakaa’s poem indicates some sort of loss of power. The speaker speaks of a “revival”. As in taking back what is rightfully his. What he lost must be restored.
Due to slavery, African Americans have been forced to trade their identities and adopt new ways of life. Deserting their language, religion, customs, style of dress and even names in order to assimilate to “civilized” American, westernized way of life. Through colonization came the fight for people of African descent to maintain their culture.
“Hoodoo is the practice of spirituality carried to the United States by West Africans as the result of the transatlantic slave trade. It is a blend of practices from the people of the Kongo, Benin/Togo, Nigeria and others.”
Komunyakaa was born and raised in Bogalusa, Louisiana.
New Orleans has a rich history in all things supernatural. Magic, Witchcraft, Hauntings,
This is greatly reflected in his poem beginning with the title he uses the words Chant and Hoodoo.
When we look at the origin of “Hoodoo” we find it derives from Christianity and West African folk magic. It is a combination of both. European meets Africa.
“Over time, a few African Americans began to incorporate a few elements from the European culture, such as occultism and mysticism.”
Regarding Voodoo and Louisiana:
“The official religion--officially the only religion--was Roman Catholicism. But this moved only the whites, their households, and to a lesser extent the yellows. The blacks in the huts and fields, though touched by the white man's faith, retained a mix of African beliefs and practices that we still know as voodoo, with a strong component of sorcery.”
“Voodoo became syncretized with the Catholic and Francophone culture of New Orleans as a result of the African cultural oppression in the region resulting from the Atlantic slave trade.”
Although Voodoo is commonly confused with Hoodoo the two are actually separate.
Contrary  to belief  “Voodoo is a religion that has two markedly different branches: Haitian Vodou and Louisiana Vodoun. Hoodoo is neither a religion, nor a denomination of a religion—it is a form of folk magic that originated in West Africa and is mainly practiced today in the Southern United States.”
Louisiana where Komunyakaa was born has roots in both Voodoo and Hoodoo.
Christianity’s role in Hoodoo as shown below:
“Not only is God's providence a factor in hoodoo practice, but hoodoo thought understands God as the archetypal hoodoo doctor. On this matter Zora Hurston stated, "The way we tell it, hoodoo started way back there before everything. Six days of magic spells and mighty words and the world with its elements above and below was made."[8] From this perspective, biblical figures are often recast as hoodoo doctors and the Bible becomes a source of conjurational spells and is, itself, used as a protective talisman.[9]This can be understood as a syncretic adaptation for the religion. By blending the ideas laid out by the Christian Bible, the faith is made more acceptable. This combines the teachings of Christianity that Africans brought to America were given and the traditional beliefs they brought with them.”
Hoodoo practitioners heavy reliance on the Bible is made evident in the following quote:
“In hoodoo, "All hold that the Bible is the great conjure book in the world."[13] It has many functions for the practitioner, not the least of which is a source of spells. This is particularly evident given the importance of the book Secrets of the Psalms in hoodoo culture.[14] This book provides instruction for using psalms for things such as safe travel, headache, and marital relations. The Bible, however, is not just a source of spiritual works but is itself a conjuring talisman. It can be taken "to the crossroads", carried for protection, or even left open at specific pages while facing specific directions. This informant provides an example of both uses:
"Whenevah ah'm afraid of someone doin' me harm ah read the 37 Psalms an' co'se ah leaves the Bible open with the head of it turned to the east as many as three days.”
“Paralleling God-as-conjurer, hoodoo practitioners often understand the biblical figure Moses in similar terms. Hurston developed this idea in her novel Moses, Man of the Mountain, in which she calls Moses, "the finest hoodoo man in the world."[11] Obvious parallels between Moses and intentional paranormal influence (such as magic) occur in the biblical accounts of his confrontation with Pharaoh. Moses conjures, or performs magic "miracles" such as turning his staff into a snake. However, his greatest feat of conjure was using his powers to help free the Hebrews from slavery. This emphasis on Moses-as-conjurer led to the introduction of the pseudonymous work the Sixth and Seventh Books of Moses into the corpus of hoodoo reference literature”
A survival method. Africans that migrated to New Orleans were cleverly able to maintain loyalty to their brothers and sisters while seemingly aligning to American ideals. Slaves likely had to find ways in order to mask that they were staying true to their beliefs.
Hence the first sentence mentions “To hide and laugh with your hands over your blank mouth face behind the mask”
A referral perhaps to the secrecy between slaves. They’re laughing beneath the blank smile, a sort of inside joke between them. The masters in the dark about what is truly going on behind closed doors.
“Rootwork or hoodoo, in the Mississippi Delta where the concentration of enslaved Africans was dense, was practiced but under a large cover of secrecy.”
“Voodoo, both a sacred dance and a religion, was expressly forbidden in the French colonies, and from the very beginning, the colonists tried in vain to crush it.” Voodoo prevailed despite the whites’ efforts, nurtured in secret by the colony’s first slaves.”
Similarly, slaves had to find means to eat. But were only given scraps, leftovers and unwanted parts of their master’s meals. Whatever was deemed undesirable slaves were permitted to consume. Chitterlings for instance or the intestinal lining of a pig was one of those things. But today they are an important part of Southern cuisine.
Within Hoodoo there usually is a target. There spells are made to render enemies defenseless.
The Speaker states:
“Your story is a crippled animal, dragging a steel trap across desert sand”
The crippled animal reference stagnant, stunned, unable to move, stalled.
Desert sand placing more emphasis on the oppressed, controlled state of the animal which symbolizes the person that the spell was casted on. They’re already injured, moving slowly, this trap is a burden, extra baggage. A major obstacle in the “animal” escaping or advancing. The animal is in a sense in captivity, captured.
The heat of the desert only further incapacitating the “animal”. Depriving the one the spell was casted on of strength and power, control over their own lives. “Cursing” them.
“A bee’s sting inside your heart and its song of honey, in my groin.”
Bee through magic gave ability to control you, it is powerful enough. To jolt, awaken, live. Manipulate you and jumpstart your heart.
“the dog that limps away”
Another reference to the injured almost paralyzed state. The condition of the animal proves the effectiveness of the spell casters spells. The speaker clearly believes fully in the capability of Hoodoo. It has the power to punish rendering the opponent
“this story is the speaking skull on the mantelpiece”
Hoodoo commonly relies on communication with those who have passed on. Séances’ are conducted which permits entry into the spirit realm. In a way reviving and awakening the deceased for a moment. Through Hoodoo life meets death allowing that skull to “speak”.
“the seventh son’s mojo hand, holding his life together with a black cat bone”
Here the speaker once again signifies the dependency on Hoodoo. The important role it serves in the New Orleans community and life. Entire existence held in place by the black cat bone a piece of
“the six grandfathers” Perhaps following tradition for generations. Hoodoo is embedded in New Orleans culture.
The speaker refers to hoodoo as “Mama hoodoo”. Here he gives hoodoo authority, through hoodoo life is created, nurtured and restored. Residents of New Orleans born. Their trust and faith put in the hands of “mama hoodoo”. Their devotion to hoodoo strong.
“Despite rigid prohibitions, voodoo was indeed one of the few areas of totally autonomous activity for the African slaves. As a religion and a vital spiritual force, it was a source of psychological liberation in that it enabled them to express and reaffirm that self-existence they objectively recognized through their own labor . . . Voodoo further enabled the slaves to break away psychologically form the very real and concrete chains of slavery and to see themselves as independent beings; in short it gave them a sense of human dignity and enabled them to survive.”
Through Voodoo practices African slaves were able to feel a sense of belonging again. Voodoo enabled them to build relationships with each other and maintain them, it unified their communities. It served as a getaway from the realities of the brutality and abuse suffered at the hands of slave owners.
Komuy
“A Gullah basket woven from your hair”
In hoodoo practicers commonly use personal items including but not limited to hair, nail clippings, blood, semen, and urine to bind and cast spells.
“As in many other spiritual and medical folk practices, extensive use is made of herbs, minerals, parts of animals' bodies, an individual's possessions and bodily fluids, especially menstrual blood, urine, saliva, and semen.”
The speakers ending remarks are an obvious jab at the torture endured by Africans during their time in captivity.
According to Wikipedia Gullah refers to:
“Enslaved Africans of the Southeast, known as the Gullah, as well as those in Louisiana, were people who enjoyed an isolation and relative freedom that allowed for retention of the practices of their West African ancestors.”

He begins by saying:
“Our story is a rifle butt across our heads”
This is significant because it displays the willpower lost. The rifle has struck the person knocking them senseless. They’re being abused and are incapable of functioning. Dazed, confused and disoriented.
“Where they kick down our doors”
Privacy non-existent, everything taken by way of force. Overlooked and disrespected. They don’t matter.
“We swan-dive from the Brooklyn bridge, a post-hypnotic suggestion”
This self-sabotage is unintentional as the former slave is still under the control of those who enslaved them. Unconsciously carrying out the objectives of the slave master all while supposedly free. In a sense committing suicide.
It seems the speaker is referring to Post-Traumatic Slave Syndrome. This is a term used to describe the state of mind descendants of slaves are left battling long after slavery has ended. They have been programmed.
Causation is unprocessed trauma, pain and anger. These things haven’t been dealt with, so they act out. They were constantly in fear, a gene passed down from their slave ancestors. They’re carrying the burden. This can account for the destructive behavior seen in Black communities. A surge in violence predominantly against their fellow brothers and sisters. Communities destroyed, lives taken, complete destruction of self. They’re
“Skin of words” another image related to enslavement. They’re owned like property their skin bearing brands to identify which master they belonged to.
Komunyakaa wishes to avenge his people’s hardships and maltreatment. He believes he can achieve this by keeping up with tradition like his ancestors. Similar to the Haitian Revolution. Where their victory was partly blamed on their use of Voodoo magic. Voodoo being an essential component in the birth of Hoodoo.
It is said that the French were so petrified of the Haitian people’s attacks that they left due to fear.
“The Bois Caïman ceremony takes place in a thickly wooded area where the slaves solemnize their pact in a voodoo ritual. The ceremony is officiated by Boukman,  a maroon leader and voodoo priest from Jamaica, and a voodoo high priestess. Various accounts from that night describe a tempestuous storm, animal sacrifices, and voodoo deities. “

Why does everyone hate POOR Zoidberg?- Futurama After you read this you may just learn to appreciate him

Zoidberg is a misunderstood Lobster, Squid, Crab hybrid of some sort. As the show Futurama takes place in the year 3000 and up it's safe to say that this being is a result of evolution. LOL He can be seen molting his shell and then to back up the Squid aspect squirting black ink from his pits when in "defense mode".
LOL LOL!

He also can be seen throughout the show sort of waddling from side to side in a crablike manner with his claws upward LOL.

Makes it hard to ignore his crablike resemblance XD

His occupation is "Doctor" yet I and I'm sure many others wonder where he obtained his degree as he seems incompetent and unfit for the job.

Voila! Episode The Tip of the Zoidberg. In this episode Zoidberg does surgery on the Planet Express crew and well let's just say it didn't end very well. See below.

Poor Fry was a victim of Zoidberg's botched surgery & morphed into various cartoon characters including Garfield, a Smurf and yes even Kermit the Frog. XD

This was followed by him getting The Simpsons jaundice.
Poor Poor Fry Lols

Let's just say I won't be visiting this doctor's office anytime soon LMAO!

After this the Planet Express crew became enraged and baffled as to why Professor Farnsworth continued to keep such a danger around.

In this episode a secret was revealed. It turns out that Professor F owed a life debt to Zoidberg. Years prior Zoidberg actually saved Professor's life. From what I remember it was Dr. Zoiderg's thick shell on his head which drove a wedge between him and Professor Farnsworth. A large Yeti was able to bite into Zoidberg's head which served as a distraction.

However, Professor escapes with a scratch from the Yeti. Similar to someone being harmed by a werewolf also becoming one. Professor is exposed to Hyper-malaria Which sounds like a combination of hypothermia and malaria. This disease may lie dormant for years or strike immediately. Professor begged that is he ever showed signs of the disease Zoidberg would put him out of his misery. Yes, that meant killing him.

Years later The Planet Express crew is shocked and outraged to witness Dr. Zoidberg attempting to kill Professor. This was due to the Professor exhibiting what he thought to be symptoms of the disease. Zoidberg having been aware of the major suffering caused by the disease reluctantly agrees to the pact he made to his friend years before.

However, in the end it turns out Professor Farnsworth didn't have the dreaded disease.

So Zoidberg isn't getting enough credit for his good deeds. Hopefully, going forward before bashing and ridiculing the poor "crab" they will look back to this moment.

UNIKELY COMPARISONS: ANIMATED LOOK ALIKES! RANDALL AKA THE SNITCH FROM RECESS VERSUS MOE FROM THE SIMPSONS

He's gotta note pad for Christ's sake OMG LOL!
He's the 3rd streets school reporter.
Okay so as I was busy binge watching my favorite show The Simpsons there came episode 18 season 11 featuring the famous Moe Sizlack. The bar owner of Moe's tavern responsible for all the drunks in the town. He's unapologetic for "profiting" off of the town's sorrows.

He can even be seen reintroducing the towns drunk Barney to alcohol despite being aware of his desperation to kick the habit. The episode is based around Barney viewing a tape in which he completely embarasses himself dressed as Marge complete with a dress and all. He ends with fighting the family canine Santa's Little Helper for booze that seeped out of a broken liquor bottle.

Shortly after Moe could be seen paying homage to a black magic alter for bringing his most valued customer back. He had apparently stooped so low as to have casted a spell to reawaken poor Barney's alcoholism demons.

Despite this Moe seems to be a mere victim of circumstance. Deemed as ugly, gross and unlucky with the ladies. He gives off a creepy vibe with women of The Simpsons.

His back hunched he mostly resembles Hunchback of notredam as well as his sunken in forehead and big bulgy eyes.

Then came a realization. Moe and Randall have an uncanny resemblance.
In case you forgot =O

I couldn't help but burst out LOLING when I really took a look at Randall though.
Although seemingly very similar. Randall has more of a "rat" like appearance. Even randall's orangish-red hair looks strikingly similar to the rat featured below. LOL Talk about coinky-dink!

Hence the term Rat used to describe someone who's busy minding every else's business.
According to Urban Dictionary Rat is defined as:

the lowest form of human being. a backstabbing snitch.
                                            and
A snitch. A person who has ""tattled" on another person

Quite clever of the animation team. Randall's character really accurately reflects his appearance.
Often depicted as sneaky he can almost always be seen up under Ms. Finster reporting the every move of perceived troublemakers like the infamous T.J Detweiler and his crew Vince, Grecthen, Mikey, Gus and Spinelli.

After a while of hating him. He started to grow on me. I realized that he looks up to Ms.Finster as a parental figure. Something he's obviously lacking at home. So he's devoted to behaving in any manner that will appeal to her. She loves him with conditions, therefore he's willing to go above and beyond to find some common ground. He wants so very much to relate to her and be praised even if that means being deemed as a Snitch by his peers.

So yes they remind me of eachother. Perhaps Randall could be Moe's son. Craving for affection through unconventional methods. Maybe a younger version of him.

Challenging the "Crazy Cat Lady" stereotype part II

An interesting documentary exposing the lives of female Cat owners commonly referred to as "Crazy Cat Ladies".

ATTN: I'M A "CRAZY" CAT LADY AND I'M NOT WHAT YOU IMAGINE LOL

For as long as I can remember. I've been surrounded by animals. Specifically cats. The other day when I was going through some childhood photos in my album. There was a common theme. Almost every picture was of me at different ages, cat in hand. (I promise to upload photos soon) =)

First there was Misty.
Then Frisky.
Then Juju.
Then Cindy her sister.
Then Sweetie and her brother Vincy.
Then Sphinxy.
Then Lynx.

And a bunch of other cats I took under my wing while rooming.
Lite -n- Sweet a ginger kitty.
His father "Tyga"
"Cupcake" a visitor I renamed actual name "Precious" lol
Jinks my best friend's cat I named Sphinx after and her twin sister.
Then Aladdin & Jasmyne his "sister"

At our apartment my roommate's cats would line up at my door upon awaking every morning and beg to be embraced and cuddled.
They'd be waiting in line lol. It was so cute. Then when cats would come visit I swear they'd heard about me because then those cats would be waiting in line too. lol
I soon became very popular in the cat community.

But when people think of Cat Ladies they automatically insert the word Crazy.
They assume that Cat Ladies are almost always a reflection of the above image.

I went to work one day Crazy Cat Lady Mug in hand drinking some split pea soup. A coworker said Crazy Cat Lady hmm. you don't seem like one. How many cats DO You have? When I responded three. Her immediate response was "MMM MMM yo house must STANK" I immediately combatted that ignorant remark with laughter and reassured her that contrary to belief I was very cleanly.

Okay well sometimes I forget to clean the litter box. However, Sphinx doesn't have any issues with spraying in the house or going outside of his litter box. My baby's so behaved <3

The exact mug that sparked conversation LOL!
Whenever someone tries to drink out of it I go absolutely insane! lol. What if it breaks? You're not a Crazy Cat Lady I am! lol

Meet Eleanor The Crazy Cat Lady depicted in the Simpsons all these years. She can be seen using her cats as weapons launching them at people who anger her in a catapult or boomerang like manner. LOL!

And she says she loves them LOL! Poor Kitties

Her speech is untranslatable and she can be seen throughout town rambling to herself in a barbaric like manner.

LOL!
Contrary to belief. No I don't have hygiene issues. I am not homeless or a "vagrant" I'm a well groomed, overachieving honors college student. Quite attractive actually *insert arrogance here* lol

I do fit Crazy Cat Lady criteria in a way. Well at least I thought so. The non-stereotypical negative depiction of Cat Ladies that is. I own the term lol. Could doing so be unfair and damaging to fellow cat people? if so I'm sorry lol. I tried to take that approach where you embrace a term to try and challenge it. If that makes sense? loll! Well at least in my logic and reasoning it does.

For instance when you visit my FB page in the featured photos you'll immediately meet my precious Sphinxy.  You'll be left wondering well who's page is this hers or his? lol
Isn't he sexy? LOL You'd better say YES! lol >:)
Sphinx is the King of my castle lol.
Here he is on "his" bed
Even when I have company laying in bed he'll lay with us.

Now enough about me & more about the star of the show! lol

Sphinx as mentioned above was named after I was trying to find something that rhymed with my best friend's cat's name. Her being Jinx I went with Sphinx. But it wasn't only that reason alone that prompted me to name him that. To reflect his royal status I named him after the Great Sphinx of Giza in Egypt. A perfect fit I thought as his body is modeled after another great Cat The Lion.

Sphinx was actually acquired by complete accident. One hot summer night I came into my old building and discovered some glowing eyes behind a slab of sheetrock. I thought he was a she and when my roommates returned upstairs without me. I reassured him that I would be back and not to go with anyone else except me. I ran downstairs thrilled and he jumped right into my American Tourister bag.

And thus an unbreakable bond was born. I brought him to the ASPCA mobile van and it was revealed that "Sapphire" actually was a male & that the operation couldn't be performed because he had a tattoo at the incision site marking him as already having it done. So I took off his pink collar with the gem and had quite the laugh. Meow! Meow! he yelled. I imagined he was saying "I tried to tell you I was a male!" lol

So what exactly is it about Cats that you love so much? Answer: Everything! Their fur, warmth, purr, funny late night "Cat Crazies",  Meow etc.
The famous dreaded Cat Crazies

LOL!
I take my Kitty outside to go grocery shopping, check the mail, retrieve deliveries but it's mainly limited to that because he has anxiety when leaving the comfort of our home. But still I reassure him every step of the way that the fresh air may be good for him. It's interesting because he enjoys gazing out of the window and trying to "escape" but he doesn't like actually going outdoors.

He sleeps on the bed with me right by my side. Ever since I was a little girl I would have "conversations" just between my cats and I in what I refer to as "meow language" I was so thrilled and surprised to have my precious Frisky respond to me with Meows. I grew so good at mimicing Meows that I'm able to do a female cat in heat that attracts many cats. LOL. Talk about crazy.

So there'd we be me and Frisky she was a fluffy plump Maine Coon under the covers whispering in eachother's ears. Meow! Meow! Meow Meow? Meow. Lol we had such a beautiful bond. She was famous for eating Boar's Head Ham and would come bursting into the kitchen at the sound of the plastic bag it contained crinkling. Meow!
Unfortunately one day she went missing never to be found. :(

At my old neighborhood I had an unbelieveable bond with the neighborhood cats. There lived a cat lady who owned the laundromat down the block. Her cats could always be seen at the location scurrying and lounging about. She fed dozens of cats on a daily basis and fostered some inside as well.

There was Fatty and Cow named after their plump sizes. Cow after her black and white large spots. Oreo named after his black and white fur. (RIP ='()And many others, those three being my absolute favorite. Most memorable cats as they would follow me as far as the train station. Walk me to my doorstep and guard it until I entered. Even going as far as jumping on my shoulders and hugging me.
I loved them so much and was so devastated to have moved. Even so I'm sure I'm still holding the title of neighborhood Cat Lady. As I constantly speak to and chase kitty cats as well as squirrels lol. The squirrels over here love me so much that they come directly up to me so close I can touch them.

VOILA! Now the term Crazy Cat Lady is used as a term of endearment for some. LOL
Take that! If by loving cats I'm looked upon as Crazy then so be it. I stir up controversy when I openly admit to appreciating the lives of cats and animals over humans.

My friend grew angry. I told her that cats will never betray or abandon you. They're simply there as companions, support and even a mood enhancer. I credit my cat with saving my life various times. As there's been times when humans have deserted me and betrayed me in some of the worst ways possible yet I still had my cats by my side. Cats don't involve gossip or drama. They're just them, and if you can't accept cats which are a huge part of my life then you can exit my life.

STAY TUNED FOR ANOTHER BLOG POST WHERE I COME TO POOR ELEANOR'S DEFENSE & VISIT HOW HER PERSONA WAS BORN & HOW SHE'S TRIED TO OVERCOME HER MENTAL ILLNESS

Tsunami

A tsunami. As usual everyone was all nonchalant about it. Thinking it would only consist of minor flooding and that they could wait it out instead of evacuating. It hit NYC. I was awake watching almost suspended in midair. My friend and I . whatever structure we were in i.e building was overcome by the force of the water. I was prepared" mentally I guess to "die". I didn't panic much because I knew at that point that it was inevitable. The large wave took over the sky. It was above us. It broke through the glass windows. Sweeping us out and leaving us to watch in horror as the wave approached us. Defenseless i decided not to run. For some reason my friend was trying to swim and have fun. Until she saw the magnitude of the waves force. She said she didn't know what a tsunami was. The wave came large as ever high as an airplane and took us in. I was "drowning". I thought about how it was affecting my family in Florida. I wished I was with them. I later became displaced and washed up somewhere else. Another male Caribbean survivor was there. We were wet and sandy. He was Jamaican. At that point my focus shifted to starting anew even if that meant with him. The news showed every "island" person or places with large bodies of water having been affected on a large scale. Japan, Caribbean islands, Philippines, NYC, etc. Cellphones were non existent due to the water damage. The world was up in arms but I was eerily calm. Stay tuned for my interpretation.
